Which fan size suits your room?
The right size helps a ceiling fan spread a comfortable breeze around your room. Use this guide as a starting point for your choice.
| Room area | Fan diameter |
|---|---|
| 7–13 m² | 91–106 cm |
| 13–21 m² | 122 cm |
| 21–37 m² | 127–142 cm |
| Over approximately 37 m² | 152 cm |

Ceiling height & installation
Leave at least 2.3 m between the floor and the fan blades, and at least 30 cm between the blade tips and the nearest wall. Follow your model’s installation instructions, especially where they require greater clearances.
Low, high or sloped ceilings?
Close-to-ceiling fans are a good choice for lower ceilings. In rooms with high ceilings, a compatible downrod can bring the breeze closer to where you sit or stand. For a sloped ceiling, choose a fan designed for that installation. You can find the permitted angle with the product.
Understanding fans
Summer & winter
In summer, the fan directs air downwards. Moving air helps moisture evaporate from your skin, creating a pleasant cooling sensation. In winter, reversing the direction at a low speed helps spread the warm air gathered near the ceiling more evenly around the room. Enjoy a more comfortable home all year round by selecting your model’s summer or winter setting.
AC or DC
AC means alternating current; DC means direct current. What matters for you is the everyday difference: AC fans usually cost less to buy and offer straightforward control with a few speed settings. DC fans generally use less electricity, often run particularly quietly and offer more speeds. This lets you fine-tune the breeze, from gentle airflow at bedtime to a stronger breeze on hot days. If you use your fan frequently, DC is especially worth considering. Check each model for its included controls and features.
Light & controls
A fan with a light does two jobs while saving ceiling space. If you want to keep your existing light, choose a fan without one. Some fans can also be fitted with a compatible light kit. A remote control, wall control or timer makes it easy to use your fan in a way that suits your daily routine.
Retractable Blades
Designed in Australia, Fanaway ceiling fans bring lighting together with a clever idea. When the fan is switched off, its blades automatically retract, leaving the appearance of an elegant pendant light. Switch it on and centrifugal force extends the blades to circulate a comfortable breeze around the room. Switch the fan off again and the blades tuck discreetly above the light. Enjoy lighting and cooling comfort in one, with designs ranging from classic to contemporary.
Lighting for everyday life
Good lighting follows your day: a ceiling or pendant light brightens the room, a table or floor lamp makes reading comfortable, and a wall light adds a cosy touch. Warm white light creates a welcoming atmosphere in living rooms and bedrooms. Neutral white works well in a kitchen or home office. Choose a dimmable light to adjust the brightness to your mood, or a model with adjustable colour temperature to change the shade of white whenever you like.
Warm white, neutral white or cool white?
Light colour changes the mood of a room. Warm white feels welcoming, neutral white is clear and practical, and cool white creates a fresh feel. A light with adjustable colour temperature lets you choose a shade of white to suit the time of day and what you are doing. CCT refers to a choice of white tones, rather than coloured light.
Dimming: from working to unwinding
Brighter for reading, softer for the evening: dimmable lighting changes the mood without changing the light. Touch lamps can be controlled directly on the product. For a light operated by a wall dimmer, the light, bulb and dimmer must be compatible. You can find each model’s control options on its product page.
Integrated LED or a replaceable bulb?
With an integrated LED light, the light source is part of the design. Lights with a fitting such as E27, GU10 or GX53 use a compatible replaceable bulb. Check whether it is included when you buy. Replaceable bulbs also let you select a brightness and light colour that suit you.
Air purifiers & combinations
Enjoy fresher air and a more comfortable home. Choose an air purifier that suits your room size. Freestanding devices can be placed where you need them, while models combined with a light save space and brighten the room too. Features such as timers, automatic operation and night mode make everyday use easy. Check your preferred model to see what it offers.
What does CADR mean for you?
CADR tells you how much clean air a device delivers each hour. A higher value helps serve a larger room. The easiest way to choose is to start with the recommended room size, then look at the features you would like to use every day.
Filters and care
Compact, Volume and Maxi each include a matching HEPA H13 filter. It captures fine particles from the air passing through it. Replacement filters are available separately. Follow your device’s instructions for filter changes and care. Keep air openings clear and place the device where air can circulate freely.
